Professional dance artists and teachers are invited to explore Jürg Koch’s approach to dance training informed by Universal Design of Instruction, a framework which promotes access for a greater diversity of people, Jürg will unpack key aspects of UD
Jürg's approach in dance is a result of his experience with Candoco Dance Company and his vast experience in higher education in the U.S. Instead of a disability specific approach or working with ‘adapting’ movements for or by disabled dancers, this approach allows everyone in the class to work with shared principles and processes allowing them to recognise and push their individual movement ranges and possibilities.

“It is in this way that disability and disabled students become a part of the full spectrum of diversity in our dance studios, our universities and our societies, rather than being isolated as an ‘issue’ or group to be taught outside the ‘regular’ curriculum.” Jürg Koch.
About Jürg Koch
Born in Switzerland Jürg has been working internationally as a performer, choreographer and dance educator for the past seventeen years. He trained in dance in Amsterdam and London, gaining an MA at the London Contemporary Dance School.

Working with Candoco integrating disabled and non-disabled performers and dancing in contemporary repertory including works by Bill T Jones, Javier de Frutos and Fin Walker informs Jürg’s artistic and pedagogic outlook. In January 2004 he joined the faculty in the Dance Program at the University of Washington as a lecturer. As an educator, Jürg focuses on contemporary dance technique and composition. He has a specialised interest in Integrated Dance and creating access to course content for a diversity of students. He was appointed Assistant Professor in 2008 and promoted to Associate Professor in 2014. He now lives in Bern, Switzerland and works as a freelance dance artist.
